This Is What A Real Woman Looks Like

|

Third trimester. That means that s**t’s getting real around here.

Speaking of real… this last weekend I saw an astounding number of images being shared online with so much Photoshop retouching that the people in the portraits didn’t have any pores in their skin. I mean, they were real folks not models for a high-end fashion magazine where it *might* be considered “appropriate,” and the retouching was beyond removing temporary blemishes or softening wrinkles to where the final product looked like a wax figure in a museum: fake.

It haunted me for a few days.

So I decided that with this series of images I’m going to keep it real and am showing my body without any retouching. All that was done to this image was basic processing in Lightroom: turning it black and white, adjusting normal exposure/contrast/etc. and finally doing a hint of dodging and burning in Photoshop, ultimately treating my digital darkroom like a traditional old-school film darkroom. I’ve left in my leg cellulite (which I have a lot more of now over the last few months), ripples of lumps in my side and back, dark circles under my eyes (that have been one of my prominent features since the day I was born), skin damaged freckled shoulders and chest, wrinkles in my forehead, arm fat dangling, and thigh skin squishing upwards and outwards.

This is what a real woman looks like: HUMAN.

I dare you to keep it real, too.
