Supporting Maternal Health Worldwide
Every day, we take for granted the fact that we have access to healthcare here in America. As women, if we are pregnant and not insured we are given many incredible state and government resources that provide us with free assistance to ensure a healthy pregnancy and child. We are so very, very blessed to have these available resources.
Unfortunately, not everyone in the world has access to resources while pregnant. In fact, many women are prevented from seeking care due to poverty, distance, lack of information and inadequate services. These lack of resources are the cause of over 800 pregnant women dying every single day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, with 99% of those deaths occurring in developing countries (source: World Health Organization).
To raise awareness, my favorite pregnancy guide, What to Expect, is celebrating their the annual #BumpDay with it’s partners on August 3rd. You can show your support for maternal health worldwide by posting a bump photo on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter on Aug. 3, using the hashtag #BumpDay. Please also consider donating to the International Medical Corps to help women start healthy beginnings.
